§ 58-104. Declaration of severe snowstorm alert.

  • The city manager, upon recommendation of the public works director or police chief, may declare a severe snowstorm alert to be in effect. The recommendation may be made upon learning of a forecast of or the existence of accumulations or drifting of snow which, in the opinion of either the public works director or police chief, are or will be substantial or learns of a forecast of or the existence of amounts of sleet or freezing rain which are or may become substantial. When a severe snowstorm alert has been issued, the city manager shall issue a press release, or notice to the public, declaring the existence of a severe snowstorm alert and requesting that persons not engage in vehicular travel except for the purpose of meeting essential needs or providing necessary public services, and that vehicles used for such purposes be limited to four-wheel drive vehicles or vehicles equipped with adequate snow tires or chains.
