§ 6-198. Guard dogs restrictions.

  • (a)

    It shall be unlawful to place or maintain any dog in any area for the protection of persons or property unless the dog is physically confined to a specific, enclosed area which has adequate safeguards to ensure against accidental entry by uninvited persons. Additionally, the area shall be conspicuously posted with warning signs bearing letters not less than two inches high, with the following legend, "WARNING - These Premises Patrolled by Guard Dogs Trained to Attack," accompanied by a decal that provides pictorial warning of a guard dog. Such signs shall plainly display a telephone number where a person responsible for such dogs may be reached at any time.

    (b)

    Prior to the posting of guard dogs on any property, the person responsible for such posting shall notify the police department in writing of the number of dogs to be posted and what days and hours the dogs will be patrolling the property.
