§ 26-23. Definitions.

  • The following words, terms and phrases, when used in this article, shall have the meanings ascribed to them in this section, except where the context clearly indicates a different meaning:

    Fire alarm means the giving, signaling or transmission to any monitoring or dispatch center, public fire station, or department or to any officer or employee thereof, whether by telephone, spoken word or otherwise, of information to the effect that there is a fire at or near the place indicated by the person giving, signaling or transmitting such information.

    Fire alarm system means a system or portion of a combination system consisting of components and circuits arranged to monitor and annunciate the status of fire alarm or supervisory signal-initiating devices and to initiate the appropriate response to those signals.

    Nuisance alarm means an alarm caused by mechanical failure, malfunction, improper installation or lack of proper use, care or maintenance, or an alarm activity by a cause that cannot be determined. The following shall not be considered nuisance alarms:

    (1)

    Alarms caused by weather conditions, which could not have been prevented by reasonable precautions as determined by the fire chief.

    (2)

    Alarms caused by maintenance or construction activity not under direct or indirect control of the property owner.

    Fire chief means the chief of the Federal Heights Fire Department or the chief's designee.
